SYPartners Superpowers iPhone App
HOW MIGHT we TRANSLATE sypartners’ POPULAR Team STRENGTH FINDER CARD DECK TO A DIGITAL EXPERIENCE?
SYPartners developed over decades of experience an expertise in helping teams mature within organizations. Inside their framework of individuals, teams, and organizational scale—SYP created a methodology for self evaluation. This method first manifested itself as a popular physical card deck and the product team was tasked to explore the viability of a corresponding digital experience.

Discovery and Validation Product Research
The Superpowers Digital Team formed the hypothesis that an algorithmic re-sorting of selected scenarios would combat a potential bias that may occur with the current physical card deck—where users must evaluate a new card pulled from the deck against the current card they already chose. In particular order effects bias may influence users to keep their original selections.
Re-architecting the Navigation Paradigm
After taking an early React JS prototype into the field and testing with a large non-profit’s leadership team in the midst of organizational transformation—insights were synthesized that led to a restructuring of key user flows.
The new navigation paradigm displays a user’s superpowers within the larger context of all superpowers contained in the app. This new architecture conforms to the mental model users had that the app’s value was found less in the assigned superpower derived from self diagnosis and more in the unique taxonomy of all possible superpowers.
The updated designs were incorporated in the final build and the app was launched in 2018 to positive user reviews.
The Superpowers App by SYPartners was nominated for a Webby in the Lifestyle Apps category.
